When I hear of young people who are making a difference in our community, I like to highlight it in the hopes that it will inspire others, of all ages, to do something similar. I recently spoke with a 14 year old 8th grader in our local area who is doing something pretty amazing! She is working to bring attention to animals that are in need of rescue by asking people to donate various new and used items for Grass Roots Rescue, located in Milton, Delaware.
I had a chance to ask her some questions about her project:
Describe this project that you’re working on.
“I’m organizing with local businesses to accept donations from the community for an animal rescue.”
What inspired you to do this? What made you aware that animals are in need?
“I wanted to help the animals. My dog was a rescue.”
Who has helped or supported you along the way so far?
What else can people do, in addition to supporting this rescue, to help animals that are in need?
“People can foster animals.”
What outcome would you like to see when the project is complete? What are your goals for this project?
“I want to get the word out and get enough donations to last a year.”
What date do people need to donate by?
“January 31, 2020”
What other projects would you like to start in the next year or two?
“I would like to help other animal rescues.”
What impact do you hope that your project will have on our community?
“I’m hoping this will help animals and inspire other people to do the same.”
Well, she certainly has inspired me to help in any way that I can and to spread the word for others to do the same!
